That is what I did to get the airbox out of the car, but instead of eliminating the bottom half of the airbox and ziptying the filter to the top half, I cut out the bottom and side of the bottom piece of the box to allow air in. IT still allows cold air to flow into the box from the fenderwell. Also, their is a piece in the bottom of the airbox that connects to the fenderwell. I pulled that piece out of the box all together. This is a really simple mod that will take all of 5 minutes if you have a dril and jigsaw. YOu can also just take a drill and put lots of 1/2 inch holes in the bottom piece of the airbox to allow more air in
