I just got the DMD installed today. WOW! The engine runs smooth as silk now above 3 grand.
Thank you Terry for supplying these. It feels a little strange to me in that I seem to feel the effects of the secondaries opening less now. I don't know if the vibrations in the upper RPM ranges added to the secondaries opening somehow increased the sensation of it. Now it just seems smoother revving all the way from idle to near redline.

I recommend this mod to everyone with the Duratec.
It definitely changes the character of the engine.

2G Sport and Athlon7,

It should work for an ATX Duratec powered car. I don't think there's anything on that side of the engine that is transmission specific. DMD stands for dual mode damper. Basically it looks like a regular crankshaft dampener with an extra attached. If you do a search, there is someone with a picture of them both.

What is does is absorbs crankshaft vibrations at two rpm ranges instead of one. These vibrations on some vehicles have been the cause of engine failure. Do a search on "crank whip" and you'll get the gory details.

I got it for $138 dollars from Terry Haines and had it installed at a Ford dealership at the cost of an hour and a half labor which worked out to about $105.

If you want a smoooooth revving engine, the DMD is the way to go. I can't wait to drive to work tomorrow just to explore the smoothness in the upper RPM ranges.

PA 3L SVT, when you say third do you mean third liter? smile I'm jealous of you 3L guys. If I lived close to Terry and I could drop my car off without the wife knowing what I was up to, I'd have a 3L by now. Oh well.

Wow, that's a pretty cheap mod! Please leave us more feedback on how it feels and if it's defnitely worth it, wouldn't mind a little smoother pull as long as it's not a performance killer ;-) Much thanks for the info!

Cool! I get weary of engine mods since this is my daily driver, but it almost sounds like preventative maintenance("Honey, I don't want the engine to fail"..lol). I would love to see it sometime. There are 2 other SVT owners here that I know of, I'm sure they would be as well. Thanks for the info. laugh

The DMD is almost not a mod as it is a Ford part that was stock on the 2001 Mondeo I believe and would have been on the Contour/Mystique if they had continued on into the 2001 model year. At least I think there was a thread where that was said. A CEGer by the name Edorfox has pictures he took when he installed his. Unfortunately I don't have the URL to his photos handy.

I'll give you guys an update tomorrow after some more spirited driving.
