From my experiences with PayPal, if you do not have a positive balance, you'll have the options of paying for something using a credit card or checking account, each of which you give details to in your profile. But when I've had a positive balance I haven't been able to figure out how to pay for something with the credit card, it just deducts it from the balance. Hope this helped.
