Went to the dealer today for car service. The Sales rep. told me that, according to his sources, if the Mondeo "eventually" (not so sure!) will be sold in the US, it will not appear in canadian showrooms.

But he said that an SVT version of the 4-door Focus ZX5 will soon be available.

Seems that while customers urge Ford to fill the evident gap between the Focus and the aging Taurus once filled by the Contour/Mondeo, the compagny's stubborn response is to multiply the versions of the Focus hoping that they will catch the public attention.

By no means the Focus will be considerd as a replacement of the Contour Mondeo. However, one can understand Ford's dilemma. In Europe, the Taurus is seen as too big, too ugly and lacks excitement. That's why the Mondeo continues to be developped there.

In north America where bigger is better, the contour/Mondeo is not so big, and that's why it has been deleted.

The problem is not the Contour. It is the Taurus. May be the answer to Ford's dilemma is to redesign the Taurus and make it appealing not only to granpas and to Avis, Hertz and Tilden fleets. Perhaps make it look like the european Mondeo, with a stick, and an SVT version. But I am dreaming ...

I find it hard to believe when he says that they'll sell it in the States but not in Canada. As for a 5 door Focus SVT - I don't see why they'd do that. Especially since there are such low production numbers of even the 3-door. It's not like they're trying to sell a large volume of these cars.

I usually take what I hear in dealer showrooms with a grain of salt. They always seem to be one or two steps behind the news/speculation here on the CEG.

Let's hope the Sales rep was wrong.

Hey just cruisin the site and noticed this post. I was at an SVTOA Toronto meeting and the dealer rep who seems like a cool guy all but confirmed that very soon the 5 door SVT focus would be out (as a 2003?). He aslo hinted that he had info on a higer output version of the Focus SVT to come. Later 2003? Both he and a rep from SVT (USA) were under the impression from Ford that the Mondeo was not coming, although they did not come out and say it like they did about the SVT Focus 5door and more power. Cheers!! I will be in Montreal (end of May?) on business. I will post here before I go and maybe I can hook up with the MOntreal crew and check out your rides.
