If all goes according to plan, I should be picking up a complete ST200 engine (SVT) for $550, complete with PCM, cats, A/C compressor, alternator the lot. At that price I could not resist!!

Evidently, the engine is a pre-production (in the UK) engine, Ford had at their factory.

I am not sure what I am going to do with it, options are break it up, put it in a std MTX shell or..... drop it in my ATX. My question is, will the ATX mate with the SVT crank? I realise I would have to keep my current PCM to run the ATX?

Thanks,

Paul.

I would think that it would work just fine, but as far as anyone knows it hasn't been tried yet so it soulds like you get to be a pioneer. The only problem with being a pioneer is that sometimes you end up with an arrow in your back.

The bigger question is the automatic strans strong enough for the additional HP? I think it is if it is not abused.

A big problem will be the PCM will not accept the ATX tranny.

The MTX & ATX PCM's are programmed differently.

You are better off sticking with your original PCM and having a custom chip made to accomodate the new engine changes. (timing, compression, cams, fuel, etc)

You will of course need the ST200 MAF and fuel injection system.

The ATX will handle the HP. Though you will most definitely want an auxillary trans cooler. (a must have!) You are getting into the realm of needing more tranny work here... (more line pressure, better clutches, etc)

The limit of the ATX input shaft is ~200 TQ

Cheers Guys, I figured the PCM problem, over here we can have something called a Unichip which splices into the PCM loom and enables the engine to be re-mapped.

I am thinking about a Level 10 tranny, although they do not seem to have a UK agent. Ouch all that shipping.

As for Tranny coolers, the V6 over here has two already, the one that circulates around the radiator and then an oil to air one in the return line. Does the US variant have the second cooler?

Also as std we have the SVT engine oil cooler, which I beleive is not fitted on "normal" Duratecs in the USA. Why when the USA is hotter in summer than here???

Thanks for confirming my thoughts and fears....

Paul

It will work if you use your wiring harness and ECU. Injectors should do ok, but if your planning on modding it you should have the ECU reprogrammed for larger injectors.

Paul that's because Ford doesn't think that we will pay for the xtra and they want to try and make the car profitable. Little did they know that it causes the ATX to fail like nothing else over here. Or maybe they did know...

I really don't understand Ford, some of their decisions just do not add up. If we need additional coolers over here for reliability then you sure as hell need them as well. No owonder they are suffering.

Thanks for the help!
Paul.
