From what I know, which is only from seeing Rick's new kit and shaft, is that they shortened the new shaft mount and cover by about a half an inch total to get the SC moved up tighter against a longer section of the splines. If you notice on most failed drive splines I've seen, they're missing about 1/2" of good splines. They also treated the shaft splines somehow, not sure if by chemical coating or heat/cold process. That's what they did for the stripping issue.

The seal issues = oil in the output side of the SC. They were thinking it was being caused by the dry start up for a few seconds when the engine was first started. The modified feed position of the filter/cooler location lowers feed pressure while also getting oil sooner than the head feed. This eliminates to high of feed pressure and lessens the dry start up time. The oil return line modification takes away the possability of a blocked return line... why chance it? wink

I would think contacting Vortech for direct answers would be the best solution. Mark and Terry have been very helpful with helping Rick and I come up with this info, but I'm not sure how much is official Votech statement and how much is Terry Haines or Mark Rowe talking about their own experiences. I'm only speaking of what I've seen and done to help Rick's car. I have not talked with Vortech about these issues since, in the past, they've been less than helpful to me. wink

Brad & others,
Calling Vortech will not help you at this time. Only 2 or 3 people know whats going on w/ this at Vortech.
The dry start is also not a concern unless the feed line is installed without a "loop." (another detail left out of their instructions)

All I can/will say publically is that I have new parts on the way to try out. The new parts and changes were a direct result of spending approx 10 hours on the phone (over many phone calls) with Vortech and MANY emails & phone conversations with Terry Haines.
To be quite honest we are not sure if the changes will work so I don't want to give anyone any false hopes! Be patient and give us a chance to make the changes and put some miles on the revised pieces so we know whether or not they work!

The Shafts...
The shafts that were first sold were not heat treated properly and were made of an incorrect grade steel. After a few failures they started investigating and found the problem. They trashed their remaining stock of shafts and went with a totally different company to make the shafts. Since the change there hasn't been a single failure involving one of the new shafts.

A way of leaving some amount of oil in the feed line? Hummm, ya, I'd say an important detail was left out! eek You have a pic of the right way so Simon and others don't go through it again?

Sounds like you've got things under control with Vortech Mark... And to think, it only took threats of sending out the thugs and all of us coming down to Vortech to bust some caps to do it too...

I will take some close-ups tonight, but here is the best one I have at the moment.

If you look closely you can see the oil feed line to the left of the blower, basically you make a big vertical loop before going into the SC (you should also do this w/ Ricks setup!!) so some oil remains int he line while the car is not running.

Thanks Mark. I'll make sure Rick's is done something like this with his set up, even with the quicker feed from the filter location. Man, it's nice to have people "in the know"...

Really looking forward to the close-ups as I am mechanically challenged, and don't quite see what you are talking about. As someone else installed mine, I am not so sure what and where everything is.

Thanks in advance
