I think its the only way to keep proper wrap and tension on the blower pulley, otherwise belt slip is an issue; a lot of power gets transferred to the blower through that belt.

Why does it look like the belt skips the A/C compressor all together???

there is a second belt driving the ac compressor, i belive it also deives the engines water pump
