I maintain that you know a very small amount of the people with these SCs. I also am aware there was some original problems with metallurgy. But, as I have the improved shaft and a properly installed oil return line, I think my chances are quite good. The GM of Vortech Engineering is running the same SC, on the same car, and goes to track days frequently. He is doing fine with his.
The kit really does suck!

PhatSVT (Sam here in KC) has gone through 4-5 of them in 1 year. 2 of them have been bad directly from Vortech!!! (the last 2 "new units" even) Leaked from the front seals directly after install!
New units, old units, all units have and do fail. No BS about old units metallurgy either. (Nice to know they have more quality control problems :p )

Does Vortech pay for labor charged for any of this either? Even the ones they shipped defective? Nope! Just screw the customer!
Make a bad design, ship a bad product, defer the blame!

The Vortech kit is like a half ass project gone bad. If they would just have spent a little time maybe thinking this whole jackshaft idea through they may have figured out a non supported unit is not a good idea. Strengthed or not.

I think anyone would take a small bit a parasitic drag to have a 3 bearing supported shaft vs failure after failure after...

But hey... Outside of constant failure the kit makes outstanding power!

BTW - Do you work for Vortech? Sure sounds like it... wink

I do not work for Vortech. I have had no oil leaks from the SC, whatsoever. I baby it when cold as specified. I am also certain that my gravity drain is working properly. This is very important. My biggest complaint has been with the for crap chip from Superchips that came with SC. I am now on my second custom chip, and it is still not right. Going in soon, though.

Your last coment is incorect, If you go by the old tech of the roots blower there is some merit to what you say. However the roots blower people havent been standing still either! There have been alot of advances in root blower tech that has raised the efficientcy of the roots blower well above what it used to be. Flexabilaty? How do you mean? confused
The majority of turbo's used today operate well into the mid 70's as far as efficenty is concerned ... superchargers are lucky to hit high 60's and roots are lucky to see mid 60's (if that's even possible). Sure, you have instant boost, but what happens when you want to up the boost? You have to jump through hoops with special tools to up the boost. This can take hours ... 1 to 1.5 for a great mechanic, whereas with a boost controller, turbo's can be reboosted instantly! Some chip makers support mulitple programs that involve a "secret" sequence of inputs at startup to switch from one program to another (valet, 91 octane gas, 93 octane gas, 104 octane gas, ect.) ... physically not possible with a supercharger since it must be driven by a pully.

Maybe one day 100 years from now when they invent the infinetely variable sized pulley laugh

They have been used with great success on snow mobiles since the 60s.

other uses include go carts, mopeds, and Honda, among other auto manufacturers have used them in the past on their cars.

I read an article that Audi is planning on having a CVT as an opional transmission in their current or upcomming model years.

I am aware of the advances in CVT, but I am talking about a pulley that can change size (3.5inches to 2.5 inches = a hell of a lot more boost!) ... has that been done?

YES YES YES YES! It has been done. With a little research you would know this. Variable size pulley's nothing new there. smile

I bought a an LS engine from Terry. Think this would work on an LS conversion?

Here is the link: http://www.specialvehicles.com/ls/blower.gallery.htm

This is the V8. I called them today about the 3.0 and they said they didn't have one done yet and are currently casting plenums for the 3.0.

I can't remember for the life of me how the SC on the eliminator was driven! Was there a prop shaft or what?

FWIW, it did work...they had it running and I saw it driving on the highway along with the cobra that was there. It was having idling problems, I think they were looking for some sort of vacuum leak.
