Understood Chris. At the time it was not considered a worthwhile venture. Now they have started looking at a different market and they think we would be interested b/c of the performance offered by stock duratecs (SVT's, SE's, Mystiques and Cougars) w/ apparent, he!!, obvious lack of aftermarket support. Yes, that's what they thought at the time but talking to the guys in NJ who do installs for Blue Ribbon they sounded seriously interested in constructing a turbo kit for these engines. I believe they lack one deposit for the Cougar guys and they know of the similarities between Cougars and Contours however they would like to see the SVT's after the Cougar kit is done to see what fitment issues, if any, exist. I have already offered my car as a prototype simply to try to get more aftermarket parts out for our cars.
I will not flame anyone or try to force my opinion on them, but I will ask to stay open minded on this. Rarely have people stepped up to the plate to offer parts for our cars like this (obvious thanks to CTA motorsports, Chris Hightower, Terry Haines, Brad Noon, etc. I am in no way trying to degrade the value of their work {those building turbos now} or steal from their market). I feel it is worth my time to try to help them. I realize this is a touchy subject right now w/ two VERY well known, loved and respected CEGers working on this very project now, but not everyone is going to like their kits. I'm just trying to further the cause. If I get the BRT kit and sit next to a Hightower or Haines kit and dyno less, lose on the strip and street I won't feel bad b/c I'm trying to do the same as those guys, make all Contours/Mystiques/Cougars infinitely more bada$$ than they are now.
What the guys at BRT were talking about on LI is the tooling and prototyping costs to build a turbo kit for the car. All ContourDreamz is asking is for 5 guys to put down a deposit of $500 (fully refundable if they don't make the kit) and they will front the rest of the tooling costs themselves. All that does for them is verify the interest of a turbo kit for the Contiquegars. I hope this clears up a couple of things anyway.
W/ that said, I was wondering if there was at least four other guys on the East Coast interested in this kit to go in w/ me. I say East Coast b/c this puts us in their back yard in case there is something we don't like (quality of kit, sales, performance, etc) so we can deal w/ them directly.
It's a new project, it's going to take some faith. It's not for everyone. But I'm interested.
