In addition, I have a few other things to say about the SC. First you must have a Borla, or equivalent, and a fairly new cat, better yet athe y-pipe and high flow cat from Sho-Shop, or you wont make the power. This is what I am going through right now. My car has over 60,000 miles on it and my cat is tired. The exhaust was put in by some dummies, so I am goig for the Borla, I think. I have never heard or seen the Bassani. Anyone have experience?
I just spent the morning fixing the mess that the guys whi did the install on my SC caused. They routed a water hose right next to the Camshaft pulley, underneath the decorative shroud, and guess whqat?? I sprang a wee leak after it rubbed on the pulley long enough. Oh well, live and learn. Jim

The shaft actaully sits inside a outside protective tube. If you removed that to install the bearing, you would have to change the mounting of the shaft, since all the mounting hardware is on the tube...if that makes any sense. It would be a good idea, but I just dont think it would be as easy as you think.
I would take some pictures, but I dont have a digital camera handy, and unless you have the motor out of the car, you aren't going to see much, from above or below. The installation is so tight, that you just cant see much of the shaft.

I have also seen some pictures posted at this site before however I cannot locate them now. You may not think that the pictures will be that informative, but then again you do not beleive a bracket can be fashioned to work.[not a flame, please dont take offense] Just get some pictures and post them and we'll go from there. We have a saying in my industry "If you want something impossable to do done, give the job to a guy that doesnt know its impossable to do" You would be suprised how many times that has worked!

Jim Jim I disagree with you about the Borla. I have built and driven several Turbocharged and Supercharged cars since 1986 and never have I installed a Borla exhaust. You say that your exhaust is modified by someone else and its quite possable that they fouled things up a bit. Lets use this example, If a person had a stock SVT exhaust That would be fine to start with for a SC'd Contour. Yes there would be some things changed in the system, However the mods. would be far cheaper than a Borla and you would get the results your after. If you want the Borla thats fine but its just not necessary. I do agree with you about the cat. You will need a good flowing cat. Most of the time that is the most restrictive part in the exhaust system.

Waddayamean the splines are not heat treated? I hope this isn't true, thats sooo basic. I wouldn't expect a normalized 1035 shaft to last too long in those conditions... How long was th R&D for this marvel

Like i said, I haven't seen the setup for this jackshaft, but a single bearing support on a driveshaft that is 2+ feet long is ridiculous...What is the purpose of this protective shaft anyways? I have seen many occurances of custom Supercharger setups like this where the shaft is exposed...hell.. even if you mounted a bracket jsu tto support the "cased" end of the jackshaft(make it clamshell design so you dont have to worry aboutit fitting over the end of the jackshaft) jsut to help keep the wobble down.... beats me... Just trying to offer some assistance(even if it costs you a $100 to rig something, its better than wasting the $3K plus on a nice paperweight. Oh well if anyone can get some pics, I'd be more than willing to help design a setup for you.

Buckshot77 has the engine out of his car, and a supercharger handy to mock it up on the engine stand. We'll be sure to take pictures, but it won't be for a little while since he's still busy stripping the silver car. Once we get that thing cut up with a sawsall, we'll roll the engine stand around and get to work assembling the engine... well, once the rods get here anyway... or ordered for that matter... We could still show you parts of the SC assembly I guess, I'll see what he's doing tonight and let him know this discussion is going on. Might help him out too with his project.
