I've got a freind who is a boat mechanic, and he said that Mercruiser recommends using an "Extreme Pressure Spline Grease" in their outdrives. He thought that it might help. I am going to try that when I reinstall the blower.

What would the feasibility be of installing another supported bearing(say from a go-cart axle) closer to the supercharger when you get the new one from vortech? (shouldnt be too difficult to fab a bracket to house the bearing.. might need to put a fitting for a greasegun to lube it though.. simple maintenece should eliminate alot of headaches)
This should help eliminate ALOT of the shaft wobble, thus non-treated splines would not be as much of an issue? laugh

I could'nt agree with you more. That mod alone would increase the life of the blower significantly!! smile smile

I have a Vortech SC, am in SoCal. Had lots of troubles with tuning. Finally had Vortech custom burn a chip. It is done and I get it back tomorrow. I'll let you all know about the results. I am concerned about the reliability thing though. I have less than 1000 miles on it. But I think I have the gold color shaft, which I believe is supposed to be better. I am interested in anything you all know about that.

Good luck to us all!

Jim(et al),
Ive been doing some looking into this for you...Even if you have a hardened shaft I would mount a bearing.
Depending upon the diameter of the shaft, I would fabricate a bracket to hold a bearing on the jackshaft right along next to the Supercharger(about 8-10 inches away from the supercharger..more or less depending upon where you can mount the bracket too). I found this place:
Axle Bearings that seems to have good priced and a multitude of axle bearings.(they even have live axle bearing mounting kits you could probably make work)
Now you could use the perfrmance sealed version mounted into a flat plate of 3/8 stock aluminum(cut to shape for your bracket and mounted to somwhere along the head, intake manifold, water pump assembly, or wherever) with whichever size OD hole needed for the bearing, cut into it... To fasten it, just machine the hole with a postive lip in the hole(similar to how you would a sleeve for a bore on an engine block) then tap it in with a little bit of loctite and countersink through the 3/8 stock a set screw, and you should be good to go...
That should eliminate shaft wobble for .. hmmmm around $15-50 bucks, depending on the size of your aluminum sheet and if you can cut it yourself(and if you have any lying around).

Good luck!! laugh

Tony,
No offense because what you are saying is sound and a good idea, BUT have you seen the Vortech drive up close? I doubt you have because you would see just how hard it would be to adapt your idea to the existing setup.

Well I have seen it and I say it can be done. Why doesnt someone post some good clear closeup pictures of everything setting where it should be when installed. That way some of us guy's that have experiance making brackets and supports of this type could help you guy's with the SC work your problems out. I know that I for one would love to help you out, if we can come up with a spot to mount the bracket and the dimensions for it I would be happy to make the bracket for you[NO CHARGE OF COURSE] If we could work together we can work it out! smile

I will try to get some pics of the shaft and the general mounting areas. My problem is I am no mechanic, All that stuff Tony says should be simple to do....Well, it's Greek to me.
