Can someone tell me why a turbo is better than as s/c? Esp if it cost a lot more. A s/c gives u more power all the time....
at 500rpm's, at7500 rpm's etc. A turbo only kicks in around 3000 rpm's. I'd just like to know what the advantages are to a turbo, I hear they are a lot of work and have a lot of little stuff go wrong compared to a s/c, but i don't know much about turbo's so can u tell me why this is good?

Not exactly. A blowers boost, especially centrifugal, depends on engine RPM. A turbo, will be able to attain full boost all throught he RPM range...as long as the exhaust volume is enough. Also the supercharger uses alot of engine power to drive it, while the Turbo just adds a little backpressure to the exhaust.

The Vortech for the Duratec only reaches its max boost (9 psi) at redline, and only starts building boost around 2500-3000 rpm. I get 1 psi at 2500, 3 psi at about 4000, 5 psi at about 5000, 7 psi at about 6000, and full boost at redline. A turbo should create more boost at lower rpms.

Speed kills, but it beats going slow!

You know I am interested Chris, but I have two issues. Will it be warrantied on the 3l, assuming the compression ratio is comparable to stock or an svt? I am running 10.3:1, essentially the same as the 2000 SVT.

Is the turbo going to be big enough for the motor?

Other than that I am hell interested, but about tapped out on large amounts of cash for a little while.

I would like to chime in on this one. The turbo will be a much better kit for one simple reason. NO JACKSHAFT!!!

Well, for starters:
-The turbo will make good boost around 2300RPM.
-The Duratec doesn't start making power till around 3200 (good power anyway)
-The turbo only has ONE moving part aside from the wastegate.
-Oh, and no jackshaft.

Warmonger, the turbo will work with your 3L. Same heads, same everything. The fact that your comp ratio is .05 more than the 2000 SVT isn't anything to worry about. I'll have to make a new flow chart for the 181 cubic inches worth of motor, but I can guess 6-7PSI could be obtained with the T28 we are using. I'm sure we will find out soon enough. smile
