i know i've read some papers on dual forced induction (there's a technical name, but i can't remember) but it's where you feed a the turbo with a supercharger (or vice versa) - the tuning is a nightmare but from what i remember it makes the whole setup very efficent but also requires tons of plumbing and cooling....
has anyone seen this type of setup?

no - 2 power adders, a turbo AND a supercharger

ive heard of it being done before...my friend with a maxima said a guy on the maxima forums was doing it to his car and yes it was a mess! still not sure if it worked out or not.

There have been multiple occurances of this with the 1st Gen Toyota MR2 Supercharged. You can look around to find info on them, but then again those were supercharged from the factory, so half of the plumbing mess is already taken care of.

I always thought it would be possible on a Zetec with say the Eaton from Jackson racing and TH's turbo kit. The Eaton sits right on top of the TB where the stock intake Plenum is and the intake is oriented just like the stock plenum, just slap up TH's stage 2 w/Intercooler and stand alone engine management and Viola!! Of course you would need MASSIVE internal build-up to hanle the 400+ hp hmmmm...any body got about $9k I can borrow?

Yeah, twincharging has been popular a few years back when the 4AGZE (Supercharged) MR2 crowd went looking for more power than pulleys could offer. Note that this engine came from the factory with a S/C setup (in the US MR2 and the overseas FWD Levin GTZ) and these guys were adding a turbo to blow through the SC and reach higher boost. It was useful back when turbos took forever to spool up, the Roots blower on the GZE engine gave the car nice low end torque until the turbo could take over. The SC was clutch activated and just spun freely at higher boost from the turbo. If you're building forced induction from the ground up, this is not a good idea. Turbo technology has advanced so much, the twincharged engines are all mostly turbocharged now. This is another good one... ... Heh, I kinda miss my Toyota days now  ... I'll go take the KP61 Starlet for a spin now
