Ummmmm..... Yes - I do.

But I could've sworn I saw something like what I'm talking about! Or maybe I am just confusing it with something else because I saw it so long ago. I thought it was something that integrated the intake and and the intercooler into one unit and was mounted under the hood (a la the WRX - but off to the side.... And actually after looking under the hood of my fathers Diamante Sedan, it would be on the passenger's side).

If anyone has back issues of magazine, I THINK it was Sport Compact Car, or some magazine like it, and the cover car was a beige Mitsubishi Diamante Wagon. Might help me clear things up. I think it was about 5-7 years ago.

Dude... Red... Take it easy! Try some Decaf? laugh smile

Don't worry Sal, we are going to use a water/air intercooler anyway smile

For air/air IC's you can have them mounted up front or under the hood. SVO Mustangs with the turbocharged 2.3L I-4 have an air/air IC mounted under the hood with a scoop above to get cool air through it. Turbo MR-2's have side mounted IC's with scoops and a fan that pulls cool air through it.

Not sure about that wagon thing though.

I'm sorry Sal, but I'm having a hard time invisioning what you mean there. I've been building turbocharged engines for 15 years now, so I'm not new to the subject. However you lost me. You say integrating the intercooler with the air intake or air filter? Please explain what and how you mean. I want to understand what you are talking about. confused smile

Sure is... they super-cool the ambient air down to ambient temperature before even being heated by compression.

Hey Sal,
Some people prefer to make smart remarks without actually explaining why, most of the time I don't blame them for doing so. wink
Having the intercooler as part of the intake does not make sense. If Chewbacca actually lived on Endor then intercoolers could be before the turbo. But as we know, that does not make sense! Intercoolers cool down the heated air caused by the compression that the forced inductor (is that a word?) creates. If it were before the turbo in the plumbing, it would have no effect. The TT system on a V6 VR4 is very confusing when looking at it from the engine bay which may have confused you. To fit it in a Diamante, they may have done some crazy plumbing to fit a top mount intercooler, of course pictures of the system would help to explain it better. I believe they normally use front mount on the VR4s. WRX's have top mount intercoolers and use the hoop scoop to force air through the it. The turbo and air filter I believe are located to the left side of the engine. I'm not sure, but the air filter may be out of sight to the left (its been 6 months since I've seen a WRX engine bay.)
My guess is they used a top mount intercooler with the air filter close by to benefit from the cool air coming in through the vents. Would make for some tight plumbing I'm sure!

BTW, I love the look of that turbo on the Duratech!

Ya know... that could very well be it. I really wish I still had the article somewhere to clear it up. All I remember is that it was some kind of weird setup not used on a turbo car before (it was many years ago). I think that since I'm in the dark about the details, I'll concede that. smile laugh Don't think I'll give up lookin' though!

Yeah sorry I missed the meeting fellas! We'll definitely do one in the Spring. Personally, I hate the cold!

WHILE IM NOT THE MOST INFORMITIVE OF SOURCES OUT THERE IM SURE, I WOULD SAY THAT A SINGLE TURBO KIT WOULD BE THE MOST COST EFFECTIVE AND POWER PER COST EFFECTIVE WAY TO GO...IF YOU DO PERSUE THIS FUTHER, I URGE YOU TO WIAT TWO MONTHS UNTIL GARRETT'S GEARED TURBO KIT IS RELEASED...PRIMARILY FOCUSING ON ELIMINATION OF TURBO LAG..THIS UNIT CAN BE SET TO FULL BOOST AT IDLE RPM ..... ALTHOUGH IT IS NOT DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR THE CONTOUR I BELIEVE THIS CONCEPT WOULD BE THE ROUTE TO TAKE...ALSO EITHER KENNE BELL OR KENNY BROWN(CANT REMEMBER WHICH 'K' IT IS) HAS ASIMILAR UNIT AVAILABLE....

Um i know there isnt a kit out for the cars but i talk to a mechanic about getting a TT off of a 3000GT VR-4 or a Dogde Stealth R/T ... he said he could get it to fit, just a little bit of custom work but it will work ... now do you think 4500 to 6500 is too much to get the TT installed ... but i am also a little worried about how the car will react to the TT ... let me here your opinions.

Thank

silverbullet98,
First, please refrain from all caps, it is seen as rude by most people.

Anyway, I really would like to hear more about this geared turbo from garrett, I have not heard of a setup like this, and would be very interested to see what it entails.

also, to my knowledge, neither Kenne Bell nor Kenny Brown offer any sort of turbo setup for any car (though Kenne Bell is fairly well known for screw-type positive displacement supercharger kits)

It's all about balance.
