bonjour, I have a Mondeo ST 200 (your contour svt) and I want to swap a 3.0L. my car is with msds headers, Y-pipe w/o cat from shoshop and a reverse air filter from msds. the std hp for the ST 200 is with eec-v ford computer 205 hp. with all the mod I did I dynoed at 247 hp.the problem with the french ST 200 is the final gear : In france we have to pay a tax (******* politicians) for hp.it is a ratio betewn rpm versus hp so the final gear is 3.46/1 and the car is theoricaly able to 260 km/h (161 mph) but in fact the top speed with this gear is with the 4 gear only. because we are not use with your 3.0L my questions are : is there differents 3.0l? the best one? can I keep heads with a custum inlet manifold? (I already built one w/o secondaries for my 2.5 with one tb per cylinder like on world rally cars + 10 hp) can I keep my msds headers with 3.0l heads? do I have to change sensors If I keep heads? is there some HC pistons for 3.0l heads? and more info thanks for your help and sorry for my english : I am french. regards jacques (say jack)

you can find used 3L motors for VERY cheap- also you can use the 2.5 intake and exhausts for the 3L heads- although most people use the 2.5 heads on the 3L block for more compression. 3L blocks can be had in anything from a Jaguar to a Mazda MPV.

thanks a lot for your answer so I can keep heads from the 3.0l and use the 2.5 inlet manifoild and exhaust headers. do you know if there is a dealer for hc pistons for the 3.0l with 3.0l heads? and do you know if the 3.0l and 2.5l are same engines to keep all the sensors and engine mounts? and last do you know where I can find a final gear for my tranny? regards jacques

Most of the sensors are the same on the 2.5L and the 3L engines, I believe. The knock sensor may not work, but making the 2.5L sensor work on the 3L engine is a simple matter of drilling and tapping the hole on the 3L engine to fit the 2.5L sensor.
The engine mounts are the same, though you have to use a 1998 or newer engine to bolt to your transmission correctly.
Do you have any pictures of your custom intake manifold? It sounds very impressive.
Bob

you are correct about the knock sensor. everything else is about the same but u have to cut off one of the altenator mounts and if you use the 2.5L heads there is an oil passage that needs to be filled

no sorry no pict for the moment, I am going to take some. in fact it is very simple : i keeped the lower intake, take out the secondaries and axles, port matched all the 12 holes to 40 mm, drilled 6 holes 90° below the axle holes (same place than injectors) on the secondaries for pcv, idle control motor and vaccum for brakes, use axles to fit 12 40 mm plates comming from webber carbs, on the top of that I built carbonfiber cover with connection for the air charge t° sensor and cranckshaft case ventilation at the end of this cover there is a round connection for the maf. I am not using anymore the egr. the end of this carbon fiber cover is at the same plce than the std tb so I am using a small rubber to connect to the maf. for the moment I am using the std tb , just displaced close to ignition coils (I have plenty of room w/o the std upper intake) for the tps sensor. from the tb, there is another cable going to the linkage of the secondaries, now the new tb, with a spring for return, it not very nice but working very well. I am just woorking on a nice linkage for all this but I have also to work for my airline... with all this the engine is really nice to use with a wonderful noise. regards jacques

Jacques, You can used the 3.0 Heads. If it's a 2001 block you need to make an adapter plate to fit the Lower Intake Manifold. Jiako had to do this on his engine. If you uses an older block 98-2000 you need to either use the 2.5 heads or get an electric waterpump. On the older block the Lower Intake Mainfold should bolt right up. Bnoon has an older block with the 2.5 heads and can tell you about it.
About your modified intake, If you get some pics on the computer email them to me at lee@coxfinancial.com and I will host them for you so you don't have to worry with it. I'm sure we are all very curious about your setup. I'd like some full mechanical pictures to try an modified design with. I have a few intakes sitting around for that. Regards, Lee

FAQ about the 3 liter can be found here. As far as you getting a used or new engine in Europe, we're not quite sure what you have over there in salvage yards. The known vehicles with this engine are Taurus/Sable, Escape, Licoln LS, Jaguar S-type and a few others. The Lincoln and Jag will take the most work to swap since they have different heads and water passages from the factory. The closest match for a swap is the '98-'99 3 liter from a Taurus. With only a few block mods needed, you can maintain all of your factory sensors. The knock sensor included. Only the newer 2000+ 3 liters need the knock sensor hole drilled and tapped for a '99 or older Contour. The 2000+ knock sensor will match the 2000+ Contour knock sensor if you didn't know.

thanks for all answers asap I will send picts of my intake. the only 3.0l in europe is the new mondeo ST220 and maybe the jaguar but it is only new and very expensive and as I am flying 747 jumbo to sfo and lax then tahiti, I spent time in ca evry month and I think I am going to search a 3.0l there. if I understand the 2001+ 3.0l with its head is good for water but not for lower intake (I have to re-built something) and is less powerfull than with 2.5l heads because of lower compression and with 3.0l 2001+ heads I can still use my msds headers. Do you knom a dealer for hc pistons for a 2001+ 3.0l to have the same compression than the 3.0l with 2.5l heads? and last for you, what is the best engine : -3.0l with 3.0l 2001+ heads -same as above with hc pistons -3.0l with 2.5l heads
(I can keep my special intake with the 2.5l heads and post 2001 3.0l heads or rebuilt a new one for 2001+ heads, in my airline they have plenty of tools and materials and as I am living close to Bordeaux I can give them some wine and you know french : for some wine they can do miracles)
thanks for all yourhelp regards jacques
