In fact, Ford does make special versions of Duratec engines (and others) for use in other countries where there may still be leaded fuel. Places like South America or the Middle East. These engines have a special set of rings to deal with the fuel.
I believe that the special builds are slowly being phased out now due to improvements in fuel qualities in these countries over the years.
