what if they were wired to an alarm along with strobes to go off when the alarm goes off. my understanding is that u can run them while in motion on private property or stand still on public property, such parking at the mall and the alarm being triggered lighting up the strobes and flashing headlights to draw attention to the car.
...and yes, I did SEARCH first before asking.

your understanding is wrong. Impersonating a police officer is not a traffic offense, it is criminal, and thus not limited to public or private property.

Sandman since you are a police officer and know much more about laws than most of us, without being in motion or trying to "show off" would it be against the law to have a set of these hooked up to a relay to go off simultaneously with your car /panic alarm for your vehicle? Could that be interpreted as trying to impersonate an officer? Thanks ~Donntae~

I researched this before and have talked to police officers here in Texas and it is NOT illegal here in Texas to have this on your car. But nevertheless, I still think it would be stupid to have them on your car unless you are a police officer or volunteer firefighter, or in the above case of an alarm system.

You guys are being way too ridiculous! He never mentioned anything to the effect that he was going to drive around with the strobe lights on. I have seen many cars parked with the strobes on for which the police never said a word to the owner - and our local cops are azzholes too! Now on the other hand, driving around with strobes on are a different story - kind of similiar as driving around with neon lights.

Wow, I can't believe cops pull people over for that. You should see it on the weekends down here at Waco, TX. The main strip is full of Fast and Furious wannabes. We've got underbody neons, freakin loud exhausts, LED windshield nozzles, and loud stereo systems, all driving down the road. And there are plenty of cops too, but they don't pull any of them over.

like i said, i want strobes to wire w/ into an alarm. the parking lights flash when an alarm goes off and i bet i can pull someone over if i got behind them at night w/ my alarm honking and parking lights flashing(i'm not even talking about the strobes). i know it can vary from state to state, i was just stating what had been said be a few people who looked into this. i've been told i can put a police light bar on my roof (supposedly it becomes illegal when i run the lights). i dont know this to be a fact.

Sandman333, or any who know the law...
So is it illegal just to have the lights installed on a civilian vehicle?
Why is it illegal if they aren't used in an illegal manner?(i.e. impersonating a police officer)
Just because they're on the car doesn't mean someone is impersonating an officer.
Please understand I'm not trying to start an arguement here, I just like to have all the facts about something I'm interested in doing.
Regards,
Brad
