I'm pretty sure the TB will be big enough (plus it was free) if not, I can always sell it off and stick a 70MM on there. Besides the UIM can only be hogged out so far- ask Brad with his 70MM. As far as a maf goes- 80MM with the post cut out.
For those on injectors, the reason I'm going 42lb is that I'm not going to use the vortech fmu to boost my pressure up to 80 psi until I have to and by then I'll have replaced all the stock rubber connections which aren't safe at that level of pressure. 42 is what all the math calculations came up with for our projected HP output of 400+ at the crank. Our eventual goal by the end of summer is 500+.
Stock rods are one of the known weak links in the engine. The pistons themselves are pretty beefy.

I hate to say it, but nothing is cut-and-dry with this. Like all things, you have to take a compromise. The SVT manifolds themselves are a compromise that allows good airflow velocity at low and high rpm. I try to remember it this way. The small tubes will have a higher flow velocity into a given cylinder than a large tube. However, the small tube has more resistance to flow and will not allow the same volume into the cylinder as a large tube.
So you have to choose which area is important. The SVT manifold should keep low end torque high and flow well enough at high rpm to keep the torque high there as well.
The 3L 01 plastic upper and lower manifolds are obviously larger, and will flow more air. However, there will be a loss of flow velocity at the low end and therefore will likely be a reduction in torque. On the other hand, the high rpm's should see more torque because of this.
I choose a wider flatter torque curve, so that is one reason why I am happy with the combination that I used.

Couple of points. 1) if going to 35mm valves with either 3L heads or 2.5L with porting and 3L valves would have the upper intake Extrude Honed to about 34mm as well (stock SVT UIM is 30mm primary and 32mm secondary). No point in having big valves if runners are to small. 99+ SVT lower is already 33/34mm.
2) the 35mm valves on 3L are proportional to the 32mm valves on 2.5L. Substantial gains going to 35mm valves on 2.5L (all the touring cars do this) so the HOT set up for 3L may be about 37mm perhaps. Maybe worthwhile if really going all out to have custom 37mm valves made.

Actually, in doing some research, I came in contact the the engine builder for Leo Capaldi's Cougar..... he owns Kinetics in Michigan...
I asked him about larger valves in a 2.5L, and he said they chose to use the stock valve sizes in the 2.5L engine because the larger valves got too much in the way of the piston and/or cylinder and what not, and they didnt see any gains.... I found this bit of info to be interesting, to say the least....
Someone may be able to offer a more scientific explanation as to why larger valves in the 2.5L engine may not work well...?????

I've still got that 2000 one for sale if you're looking. As far as rods, they set me back $1100 for the set. BNM is looking into possibly having some made so stay tuned. Rick
