Ah... But's that a misconception.

The engine pulls in the same amount air regardless of using 1 runner or both runners. (atleast at low rpm where 1 ruuner would not be a restriction)
However the velocity drops using 2 over 1.
Also the fuel atomization is affected since the injectors are located in the primary runner.
Plus the lower velocity and less airflow in the primary runner affects atomization as well.
