Those are the two ways that I would do it, have to get around to it soon.
Where can I get some of these A-pillars and guages. Do you buy the guages seperate from the pillars?? Also, how hard are they to mount??

You already have an a-pillar, you don't necessarily need to get the gauge pod and gauges to run the wire. An A-pillar is simply the pillar that is on either side of the windshield and is the front-most pillar holding up the roof. To remove the stock a-pillar cover, pull down lightly from the top side of the pillar until the clips pop out...careful with this though, they tend to break.

If you do want the gauge pod though, I think SP Motorsports has them and the gauges you can get through Summit.

The arrows weren't that accurate and I like the small, sleek look of the Passport, not to mention the extra features and easy programming. I just have mine showing the vehicle voltage (like a battery guage which I don't have) and it looks spiffy and can sometimes fool other drivers. Plus the added benefit of different brightness settings and the added benefit of SWS when driving around the Austin, TX area makes it pretty cool. I'm not knocking the Valentine One but I did test both models out before choosing and it was rather hard, but then again, the Passport was $100 cheaper, well, I guess $70 after counting the added expense of the direct wire purchase.[/QB]
Hmm.. The new V1 is less bulky, can be programmed as well (something most people don't realize), and it has brightness sensitivity - When it gets dark outside, so does the display. Also, the V1 comes with the direct wiring stuff, so no extra $30 as with the Passport. The arrows work about 99% of the time, but to understand how they work, you should read the manual. I'm not sure how they worked wrong for you.

Take your sleekness over range, but when you get a ticket, don't come crying back to us.

If you go by this test Radartest.com The 8500 looks pretty good next to the V1.

Probably both are good enough and better then nothing.

I use a Passport 5000 (5 or 6 years old) and a CB radio. The CB warns you before the detector goes off. The CB is best on major roads. The locals use x-band here and leave it on all the time, so the detector still is useful.

There is also a pretty good writeup on it in the new SCC. They praise it!

And the Passport 8500 also has dimming capabilities, as well as an assortment of other usefull functions. Although it doesn't have the direction indicators like the V1 and sometimes I wish I had them. I don't think they are worth the extra $100+ dollars.

Plus the Escort looks soooo much cooler laugh

Seriously though check out the new SCC issue. They do a very nice job reviewing it!
