To put it in perspective, save whatever money you can. Don't do shortcuts when it comes to durability though. Using the same valvetrain components on an engine with only 50K on it is no problem, especially when these engines can go 200k without valve work.

The verdict: I did my whole engine swap for $1,750 in parts and machine shop costs.
Pretty good for 217 wheel HP.
Of course I did all the other work myself, but why spend money when you don't need to. Spend the $50 on a micrometer and measure stuff...it'll save money in the long run.
