Personally, my plan to date is to use the 3L heads unless finances prevent me from going in that direction. Since timing and fueling is optomized with the 3L setup, I figured a chip of some kind could provid the added performance that the baseline 3L PCM program could not. This way I don't necessarily have to worry about the fuel and timing maps. I'm just finding it hard to believe that there is no way to get similar performance with the 3L pcm.

fwiw, I would recomend the 3L heads over the 2.5L heads anyway. They have larger valves, and there is no chamber overhang on the 3L bore. Only downside would be the CR may not be as high as desired ("only" 10:1 vs 11+:1) and not extrude honed in the primary runners, though both are easily taken care of.

Wait a minute, LS 3 liter?!?!?!? Has anyone confirmed the rear drive LS to have the same bellhouse pattern as the front drivers? Or are you just talking heads Terry? If so, the heads must be slightly smaller to get the half point jump in compression then, correct? Same sized valves and ports? Please elaborate...

confused

I do know that the LS heads have the larger valves, and the smaller combustion chamber volume, though I have not been able to confirm whether or not the heads are compatible, though i am researching it, along w/ someone else, and fwiw, I have no idea what Terry has determined on the matter.

Larger valves as in larger than the other 3 liters or larger as in larger than the 2.5 (as the other 3 liters are)? Do you have an LS head to look at? I have two sets of regular 3 liter heads and a set of 2.5 to compare to...

brad, I do not have an LS head, but I do have some of the specs for it.

the valves for the LS are 35.0mm intake and 30.0mm exhaust (1.38" and 1.18") same as the taurus 3L

and the combustion chamber for the LS is 44.2 cc vs. 48.2 cc for the taurus 3L this gives a 10.5:1 CR on the LS engine, vs. a 10:1 on the taurus engine. The LS heads also have numerous valvetrain improvements. Terry would prolly be able to describe the valvetrain differences than I would.

I do not believe that the LS heads are directly swappable though, I think that they need some more substantial modification to be able to be fitted, or so I've heard.

i wish there were rich contour owners, or at least someone with ample access to spare parts so we could just say "here Terry, Brad, an LS, jag, escape, taurus block; LS, taurus, escape, jag, SVT heads; intakes; PCMs, etc. see what works, see what doesn't, cost is no matter"

never mind

If I were rich, I don't think I'd be driving a Contour...LOL. wink

Now, what about getting that EEC programer, and tuning the car on the dyno? Wouldn't that be the best bet? That way, the 3.0 or 2.5 programs wouldn't be an issue.
