Okay Judge - I know I've been rude to you in the past, so I'll try extra hard to be polite here. I've seen in 2 threads now you and Terry saying the 2.5L PCM in the 3.0 is a bad idea - and the 3.0 should be repinned and used instead.

My uneducated persons question is, why would the 3.0L PCM spark curve work any better for a 3.0 with monsterously high compression and 2.5L cams than the 2.5L PCM would? I would think both would be more or less equally "sub-optimal" and to get the real "perfect" curve would require a cutsom chip?

Is optimal spark timing more dependant on displacment than on cam profile and fuel curve?

Just FWIW - David Z' Mods (below), no chip & stock SVT PCM, stock injectors. Not bad power for a sub-optimal setup IMHO.

Performance:
3L engine and 3L lower manifold - installed as of 4/21 and dynoed at 240hp/215ft lb at the wheels
NEO synthetic motor oil - tell'm David Z sent ya!

Driveshaftshop stage II drive axles - tell'm David Z sent ya!
Lightend/balanced flywheel -6.5lbs
Sachs "Super" clutch - I don't like it, it has a long engagement
Polyurethane filled left and right motor mount
Koni adjustable "Sport" struts & Wietec springs w/ 40mm drop (300/200lbs)
Sparco front and Rear Aluminum Strut Tower Bar
Wilwood Brake 4 piston calipers and two piece 12" rotor & steel braided lines + Neo brake fluid
Relocated battery to trunk with 2ga wiring

Spark curve is not the only benefit. Injector dwell on the 3.o module should be longer, as well as the fact that the ECU is confused by the fact it is trying to run an engine much larger tahn it is supposed to. Spark timing is not the only reason, but it would be better because you have the major increase in compression. Yes it is possible to make the engine run from a 2.5L module, but it is not the best idea. Basically it is your engine, your cash so do what you want. I have been in the auto industry for about 16 years. I am still Master certified, and have schooling to back the hands on. I give the best advice I can, sometimes the fact that you see just words can make it seem condescending. That is not the case, but I have become very short tempered with some of the situations.

isnt it also confused because it still thinks an automatic tranny is bolted up instead of a 5spd?

I think they said that sensorwise it could be gotten around with the repinning? I know in the Neon performance world (non computer controlled tranny) you can stick the Mopar perf. PCM for MTX into the ATX car and all you lose is tq converter lock up, everything else runs good. Don't know if they do any mixture enrichment / leaning or any other drivabilty type stuff around expected shift points though? Also curious if idle control for ATX vs MTX is different?

Guess somone has to try it to find out smile

Hmmm.... What if you HAVE a 'Tour w/ an ATX Tranny.
What would be involved in swapping PCM's?
Can it be as easy as just pullin the old box, and pluggin in new 3.0L Module?
