Today I disassembled my dead 2.5L down to the short block. I had the 2.5L and 3.0L side by side and noticed some diffences for the timing guide dowels. The 3.0L is missing two of them!!! How did you guys account for this??? Without them, I don't see how you can put the chains back in there from the 2.5L If you need pictures of what I am talking about, go to Photos and go to my photos and then 3.0L swap album.

All the timing gear was identical on my 2000 3.0L and the stock 1998 2.5L block. What exactly is different?

Hmmm, memories coming back to me...

I ran into the same problem. We just put the dowel(s) that had a place to go in there and ignored the other ones. Been fine so far.

Take a look at DSC0012 and DSC0013 in photos from the link above. If you look in the upper right hand corners of each, you'll notice that one has a guide dowel for the chain guide and one does not. I guess I'll be alright without them as long as the bolt patterns are the same.
