Folks,
I'm not ready to give up yet. The tech manuals just aren't as detailed as I would have hoped. Hopefully, with the knowledge this group has, I'll be able to successfully swap my engine. I have no choice but to do it and I am quite a ways in to it. I have a couple of motor heads in my corner so I'm not completely alone in this project.
Get one of the Ford CD ROMs... Todras has them for 8 bucks. I have one that I got about 2 years ago and it was great throughout the process. Anyone can follow the rebuild process as long as you know how to turn a wrench up to the point of making sure the cams are in the right place. One note... You can use a paint marker to make one mark on the crank area of the chain and gear and two marks on the cam end of the chain and gear for each bank of cylinders... that is
IF the stock marks can't be seen that is. Degree wheel is the only way for sure to know, but heck, I'll bet the Ford mechanics don't even go that route.
Any questions, PM me. I have a bare block I can take pictures of if you need me to point things out to you...
