You can't shift from 5th to reverse even with the collar lifted, there's a second mechanical lockout to prevent this. Try it even when you're parked, if you try to go from 5th to reverse it simply won't go, you have to let the lever go back to the centre first then into reverse!

Dumbass-proof or what wink . But I gotta admit I like the reverse-lockout, I've been driving this car for 6 years now so it's second nature to lift it when going into reverse and it looks way cool if you get an aluminium collar.
