I know this is a stupid question but I have NEVER been on a dyno before (or even seen one in person for that matter), anyways, I'll be doing one in August with the vegas meet and, well, how exaclty do you "do" a dyno? What do I need to know? anything? So I just drive on the dyno like normal or what?? I've seen video's of cars doing dyno's and it seems like the drive normal for 1st and 2nd gear, then stomp on it for the rest of the gears going to red line at each shift. Is that right? haha...thanks for the help guys, i know, I'm a retard!.

Just make sure your tires are properly inflated (COLD) and are rated for redline RPM speed in 4th gear (or PCM speed limit if that's a factor). If you've never been to a dyno before, tell the operator and he'll run your car for you for sure. Most don't let any customers drive their cars on the dyno for safety/liability reasons. I got to run mine because the operator had to sit shotgun and read the manual wideband O2 readings (the one that hooked to the DynoJet software fell victim to a blown engine the day before). If the car is ready for a highway drive, then it's ready for a dyno run.

Basically, the car will be run normally into 4th gear and then go WOT from low (2000 - 3000 RPMs) to redline (or just short) in 4th for recording. They'll strap it down real good before it gets run (that will probably take longer than the runs actually).

Your ABS light may get set after your runs. Having two wheels moving and two stationary tricks the ABS computer into thinking the rear sensors are shot sometimes. It'll go away after a few days once the computer sees the rears moving again. Just remember, if that happens you don't have ABS (IIRC) when the light is on.

I personally prefer to watch my car on the dyno. I have driven it on there before, but it is a bit stressful. You cannot hit the brakes or turn the wheel at all. The effects could be catastrophic. I am a creature of habit and was worried that I would tap the brake pedal. Nonetheless, it is a blast. I have about 30 runs. I have hepled/witnessed about 300. It is a different story when it is yours on the rack.

Don't sweat it Simon, you'll have a couple old hats there if Po-Jay and I both show. We hang out at Street Flight on a regular basis and have helped in every manner possible. I have never driven mine on the rack, but really don't want to. Like Jay mentioned, it's definitely a zero error environment.

You'll dig it, I promise laugh
