WOW those hp #'s are comparable to the S/C but hopefully more reliable. Also did you guys go ahead and put in a Quafe/Torsen LSD and new clutch while you were at it? I hope so because I wanna hear ALL the kill stories and minimal stories about "downtime" Good luck with your cars guys and remember....15w50 Mobil 1 now

20W 50... It's a little warmer here.
If it's true that we are here to help others, then what exactly are the others here for?

I cant remember the exact performance numbers, but the Elise out performed the Cobra by at least 1 second throughout the whole test. And I have to mention that this particular car only has 150HP with proportional torque! I will take a look at my back issues and post the results. That's a good deal more weight difference than the Contour vs Cobra issue. The Cobra should be able to easily put out over 100 ft lbs more torque throughout the entire RPM range vs the turbo'd Tour, given light mods or not, depending on the turbo's final tune numbers. The weight difference is what, 500 lbs max? And we are comparing a launch happy RWD with a decidely launch unhappy FWD? IMO, it's no contest, the Cobra will win hands down. Don't feel so bad, you have to spend $35,000+ before tax, title, yada, yada, yada for an entry fee into the Cobra. You shouldn't expect to outrun one in your SVT, turbo or no turbo. Don't forget, the 03 Cobras are pretty much running away from C5 Corvettes bone stock.

We gotta get a T/C and S/C Contour to race each other.

Sandman's pretty much covered all of my points.. The weight difference between an SVT (with the Turbo kit) and a Cobra or C5 isn't that much, 400lbs at most. I'll still stand behind my claim that the RWD and torque advantage will more than make up for the weight penalty, not to mention where in the curve the HP is being made.
My price comparison is based on the initial price of the SVT (since most of us bought the car new), plus the cost of the Turbo, Quaife, and installation. You're right at the price of a used C5 or 99/01 Cobra. Still no contest. Or you could buy a used 3000GT, 300ZX, or 2nd Gen Eclipse Turbo, with about $10K left over to make it RIDICULOUSLY fast. Or even a moderate mileage Supra. Or even a pimped out turbo Civic with NAWZ! :>
Keep trying to justify it, but unless you plan on keeping the car forever, it doesn't make sense. You'll be kicking yourself after you blow the motor too, in famous SVT fashion. Warranty? What warranty?

Kind of ridiculous for a car that has a blue book value of around $8500. There's a Subaru dealership that's got 2002 WRXs on clearance for $19,500. Use that other $4500 on mods and you'll be running 12s. 4 doors, AWD, new car, no contest.

[/b]I'm gonna go out on limb here: What if RMK has the capablities to do all this work himself, saving thousands in labor for such a crazy project (boosting a 4 door  ) Making his car one of a kind and a total sleeper to those guys in Vette's and Cobra's that think they are to cool? That seems like a nice picture I just painted, 4 door sedan smoking a true sports car. If your looking to just be plain out the fastest car on earth, I agree the car is not he best platform. But thats not what I am after if your a true enthusiast and cars are your hobby, I would say that a one off car or a car messaged (sp?) to the owner's taste or power is way cooler than any stock American Car (some imports must be excluded) People do all sorts of crazy things with their money, cars are bad investments period. You have to drive though and you live once, might as well enjoy whats yours.

I wish I had the funds to build a proper Duratech engine. Trust me, if someone could get it to hook, there wouldn't be anything this side of a pro dragster that could touch it....

03 Cobra's are on another level. I was reffering to the guys that "think" they are the Sh#t and drive crap box corvettes and old stang GT's. Whenever my SC 3L does reach completetion (whoohoo new warehouse will be ready next week, real work will begin soon ) I'd still try to run a 03 Cobra, I'll still lose, but it will be a great defeat and I bet the guy in the Cobra will **** himself a 4 door gave him a run for his money.
