Um, this theory has been proven just recently by SCC comparing a Lotus Elise with a Mustang R. The Elise weighed in around 1600lbs where as the Mustang weighed in at 3000+.

I cant remember the exact performance numbers, but the Elise out performed the Cobra by at least 1 second throughout the whole test. And I have to mention that this particular car only has 150HP with proportional torque! I will take a look at my back issues and post the results.
That's a good deal more weight difference than the Contour vs Cobra issue. The Cobra should be able to easily put out over 100 ft lbs more torque throughout the entire RPM range vs the turbo'd Tour, given light mods or not, depending on the turbo's final tune numbers. The weight difference is what, 500 lbs max? And we are comparing a launch happy RWD with a decidely launch unhappy FWD? IMO, it's no contest, the Cobra will win hands down. Don't feel so bad, you have to spend $35,000+ before tax, title, yada, yada, yada for an entry fee into the Cobra. You shouldn't expect to outrun one in your SVT, turbo or no turbo. Don't forget, the 03 Cobras are pretty much running away from C5 Corvettes bone stock.
