Yeahh Quaife!!! I can't wait!!!!! Terry's has my trans as I write for a Quaife install.

I must be lucky though...I must have burnt out in my car over a hundred times! I used to drop the clutch way above 4k oftern...ouch.

I have no idea what my stock diff is like...Terry? How does it look eek ? Only prob I had (that I knew of) was my 2nd geay sync was going bad. Other wise my tranny felt fine.

It will feel MUCH better when I get it back from Terry laugh

Simon(TH on coffee break!),the diff was good,no chips on the gears etc at all, have to point out to the 'viewers' that the ROD SHIFT transmissions have beefier diff gears than the PRE 2000 cable shift boxes, then the POST 2000 transmissions went back to the same beefy gears as the older rod shift!...if you are in the middle you are scre**d!!!, the synco/blocker rings were shot on second/1st a bit also.Bearing in mind the age etc it was a better trans than most of the cable shift I see. Will also do the two selector forks we discussed to 'smmmooooth the shifts..couple more parts to come in should be done next week...TH wink PS I now have 'access' to NEW ROD SHIFT V6 BOXES, NEW pre 2000 cable shift boxes AND 'FOCUS' MTX75's..NEW along with the NON Zetec Focus trans....NEW laugh

Awesome Terry Thanks!
I think I'll just stick with what we've discussed. I wish I could but $$$$ are getting thin!! lol. If you could do me a favour, when you get a good idea of how much my ending balance will be(if you haven't already) and let me know that would be great. Don't mean to be an impatient SOB but the misses controls all that and starting to whine!

yeah I know, I'm whooopped!! laugh

Woohoo - early contour's kick ass smile

How much beefier is beefier? Have you still seen a good number of "shrapnelized" early diffs?

Oddly enough, i have been doing the slip/dump method(slip the clutch till it starts to catch and then let the clutch go) at 4000 for 25k now, no problems.
I recently took my tranny out to take a look at it(and check to see if i can convert to the SVT/Euro Focus 4.06 ring gear and pinion) after a masive "one-tire-fire" burnout/clutch bake and there was ZERO damage to any of my gears.

But lets get some facts straight here....

And i do not mean to be a Dick to Joe(zetec racing), but according to him, the gears in the MXT75 will only handle 250hp when I have talked with the owners/tuners of 3 European Foci who are all pushing 450+lb/ft through a factory stock tranny with only a LSD, Clutch 15lb flywheel and custom driveshafts as the only Tranny mods and one of these transmissions has seen 50k miles(probably more now) of racing use while push that power with no problems.
A member on Club-Focus, TurboTom, has been running 300+lb/ft through his entirely STOCK drivetrain.

Joe also stated that the hydraulic clutch use Tranny fluid and not brake fluid.....

UMMM no you mis understood that... the clutch pedal uses the brake fluid the trans uses the ATF.

With respect to our Foci members (yes I do those too at HMS Inc) The clutch res on a Contour /Cougar shares with the brake, no ATF in the hydrauic clutch system. The stoc Focus MTX75 diff gears are the same as the pre 2000 cable shift Contour/cougar MTX75 and are not as beefy as the rod shift MTX75 or the V6 post MTX75 diffs.I work on MTX75 transmissions every day, with 14 Focus new trannies (MTX75) in the shop right now I think I know what I'm looking at.Its only a matter of time ,with power increases etc, before one of the side or planet gear teeth in the diff will let go.If you dont beleve me you are welcome to vist my shop and inspect the 'MTX75 'Death Row' or talk to the CEG's who were at Spring Zing where I took parts from 'grenaded' diffs!!!...its just a matter of time..... wink

thanks for the reply terry I was there for you talk and he hasn't listened to what I had said about it yet maybe if enough people tell him the same thing he will understand. HE seems stuck on the fact that there are focus owners putting down some power and haven't blowen the tranny yet.
