I've had my car to the track twice now and I'm confused. My launch is terrible(60'= 2.45- 3.57) and for some reason my trap speed is always 86mph. Even on my 17.22 I trapped 86. 16 flat, I trapped 86. 15.7, I trapped 86. Is my car falling on its face after the shift to fourth gear? Am I doing something wrong? I'm lost. -R-

-R-Hmmm, must be a Contour thing. My one trip to the track netted a best of 16.0 at 86.7 mph. Like you, I had horrendous launches. I haven't been back since doing most of my mods and figuring out how to drive better (I hope) so don't know what the car'll do today. Don't know the physics of why different times would give the same trap speeds though?

Think of it using these hypothetical examples:
Good launch, you get full traction at 10' and go full power and traction for 1310 feet.
Bad launch, you get full traction at 50' and go full power and traction for 1270 feet.
Think those 40' are going to make much difference in the speed you reach at the end of the track? Not really, just a slight difference. But, it will take you significantly longer to go the full 1320 feet with the worse launch (mostly because it took you longer to get through the first 60').

(I figured out I could make about 40% more money designing SW. Now instead of desiging mechanical prototypes and analysing reliabilty I design multi threaded distrubuted applications while sitting on my @ss in front of an SGI terminal all day)

If it makes you feel better I have good launches and still only get 87-88mph trap, best 60ft is a 2.26 and I have several other 2.2x's all with respectable RT's . Not sure what the deal is, and no I dont lift my foot in between shifts and I barely release the clutch. Could be the track your on, I know for a fact the track i did these runs at is a good .2 slower than Norwalk (in Ohio) Hopefully I'll get out there and lower my ET to what it should be.
