Did you guys set the MSD to retard at a specific rpm? if so what was the start rpm and what retard rate did you guys set it to. And most importantly even if it was set to retard, did you guys have the function turned on? -Mark

I think he tried hooking up the MSD at the dyno, but it wouldnt start with it on there so he unplugged it before the run. I imagine he also drove it here without the MSD too. My guess is exactly what brad suggested earlier. I hate learning things the hard way.
I am sure Rick will get everything back in order, and be even better than before.

The MSD was disconnected. It threw a MIL at start up and melted the tach adapter they recommended. We were waiting on tech feedback before going forward with it.
I know Rick was holding it below 4-5K until he could get a chip tuned, but with the new injectors running well with the new MAF I'm not sure if he remembered he still needed to keep the revs low to avoid spark advance or not. The way it should have happened was get the car to the dyno, download a Vortech spec chip program minus any fuel changes, make a light run, then make changes from there. Since I wasn't there, I don't know if that's what happended or not...
Certainly if a full throttle run were being made right off the bat with no spark changes, detonation would easily be strong enough to blow a hole in the pistons...

That is probably most likely, but I think we shouldn't jump to any coclusions until Rick gets home and finishes getting verbally abused by his wife over this. -Mark

'Lumenition / MicroDynamics' *EMS6 Ign retarder.....$100 * EMS5 Ign Management for boost up to 12psi ....$140 * PIC5 Fuel enrichment for high boost ...$155......! ;)FWIW with 9psi boost on a 10:1 CR motor wil give you a final CR of around 16:1, way too high for stoc amount of ign advance...

Antonio and I just made some money. We both said right when it first started up that it would self destruct somehow. This is horrible news but I have yet to see someone build up a motor all at once and have it work. I installed a simple Vortech supercharger and thats it and still tuning. Sorry but this tuning proccess is never going to end. Good luck with the fix. Guess we wont see it at Spring Zing. I wish I kept the car stock. These cars are not meant to have boost. Sorry to hear about the bad news bud. Wish you didn't have to experience such a thing.
Can I ask something though? Rick or anyone else. Did you expect this to happen? In honest to God truth I did.

damn man, I figured Rick was going to have some problems (hell I had problems when i first got started... its common), but is there really any need to kick him while he's down? No offense Sam, but I think your comments aren't needed at the moment. -Mark
