Mark, no argument started. The chip wouldn't work with this set up because we were removing the FMU, going with the 42# injectors, as well as the code was different and trying to tune one over the phone was out of the question. The reason our set up didn't work was because of the MSD box not working as promised and Rick taking the chance that it was safe to drive gingerly to the dyno to get a new program on his chip. Unless his right foot got a little carried away on the way there, she should have been fine. Perhaps he forgot about the spark issues for a moment or something... What we wanted was a chip for the track, then use the MSD to back timing out further for the street. Race gas would have been sweet as would a little bit of water/alcohol with an aftercooler. Still lots more that could be done to a Contour... Someone said it... Chalk it up to pioneering different ideas...

So Rick did not have the chip in then? When I had the S/C I was getting ready for a show and I had everything installed and was waiting for the chip to arrive VIA fedex. It never shows so I called Vortech and they said I could drive the car without the chip as long as I kept it under 4,000 rpms. If I were to go over I would have put a few holds in the pistons, at least that is what they told me. So I was just wondering if not having the chip in could be the reason for this?
Either way, my heart goes out to Rick. He put so much time and effort in that car. I hope everything works out.

Thanks for the edit Steve, but certain people who work for certain companies have better prices and are looking to help us out. Yes, Tim, you stated one of the reasons it should have stayed below 4-5K. After that RPM boost starts to build and with stock ignition advance in place detonation would start. Most likely what happened here. I sure hope they made the dyno run with some kind of chip in place and didn't run it without anything in there!!!

I know brad wasnt sure if my ecu and his were the same codes so he may not have run the chip at all. Let me know.
