Made about 9 runs total...

First run, S-AFC settings set to 0% correction.

170.0hp (no TQ #s on this run, forgot to hook up the RPM signal wire)

Added fuel w/ the S-AFC, ended up w/ 6% from 0-4k rpm, and 4% from 4k-7k to get the best #s.

172.9hp 155.1tq

'Only' 2.9hp peak and about 3 lb/ft of peak tq increase w/ the S-AFC, BUT looking at the graph; 2k-3700rpm the increase is about 2hp, but from 3700-6500rpm, I'm averaging about 6-8 more hp w/ the S-AFC. Nice, very nice. Peak isn't all that great, but mid-range is awesome.

Decided to pop in the chip just for ****s and giggles, (pinged like a mofo last time) and got...

173.8hp and 153.8tq (in combo w/ the S-AFC)

Good news, no more detonation w/ the chip, but I'm loosing about 6-8hp from 1-3700rpm, and about 2hp rest of the way, until I peak at a 1hp increase over the no-chip run. Torque has even worse losses.

So, only time I'll be using the chip is at the strip where the higher redline helps tremendously.

Wideband O2 was being used for all the runs, ended up w/ a 12.9-13.2:1 ratio.

I had previously used the O2 voltage readings to tune the AFC (duh), but holy shiz are they inaccurate. Before the dyno, I had added anywhere from 20%-26% more fuel. Way too damn rich, even though O2 voltage was about .91-.92 in 4th.

Having 83k miles on the original O2s has something to do with it of course, but still...

Anybody w/ a AFC, get it DYNO TUNED!!!!

In the end, peak gains are decent (3hp) but midrange is very impressive, w/ the increases peaking at 8hp at the wheels.

Phew, sorry for the long post, but it's been a pretty damn good day. Simon's numbers are very impressive, and w/ a few adjustments, 280fwhp isn't unrealistic.

Mods at the time of dyno-

KKM intake
Magnecores
Bosch plugs
SMA Y-pipe that leaks
FST4DR cat-back that ain't exactly 'flow friendly' wink
S-AFC
SS pulleys

Got my best run with only about a 5 min cooldown after doing 6 runs, with a longer cool down time, I think the HP numbers could have been a tad higher. But who cares.

D@mn you and your wideband O2 sensor. wink I NEED to redyno with the bigger injectors, but I just don't have the $$$ right now. What are your O2's running now with the dyno tune?

I only checked once, but in 4th gear at about 4500 rpm, voltage is about .88-.90.

Great one he has a 98 SVT 5 hp less then 99 and 00 remember?

John do you have a drop in air filter or open (KKM)?

Because when i dyno'ed i only put down 167hp and 152tq but when i removed the drop in case and mounted the K&N to the intake and left it uncovered ie: KKM i layed down 175hp and 156tq.

You've got 5 more hp to begin with, so add at least 4hp to my graph, which would make my #s 176.9hp. I know plenty of people that have hit mid 170s almost stock.

Hell, I hit 174fwhp w/ just a KKM and my exhaust that you think 'I need to fix' almost two years ago. I know it's not exactly the most flow-friendly thing out there, but I'm not ready to plop down $500 just to get 3-4peak HP.

But, I see plenty of lightly modded SVTs still in the 160s...

Bill, we all know you had a ringer motor, so comparing my numbers to yours is like apples and oranges. wink

Anyways, you guys are too hung up on peak HP. In the end, I'm more interested in HP figures from 3-6500rpm. Again, I gained 6-8fwhp from 3700-6k just from the S-AFC. What kind of numbers are you guys putting down at 3k-6k rpm?

Slim, I've got a open KKM.

I know my upper and lower intakes could use a bit of cleaning, but I've also got two CELs for EGR insufficient flow, and Bank 2 lean, which *might* be affecting the numbers, but I doubt it.

83k miles on the motor.

I'm very happy w/ how the car is running, so we'll see what kind of numbers I'll get at the track. Last time I ran a 15.0 w/ 6-8 less FWHP from 3700-6k.

Oh, and lets not forget I didn't have much of a cooldown at all.

John

Seems as thought the consensus over here with the DSM guys is that as well. They preach on and on about how bad the blue wire mod is for tuning. Not that it is bad to monitor 02 values, just that it is an extremely inaacurate way to try and tune your car.

$400 plus dyno time for three hp. Another reason I'm selling the tour and getting a corvette smile . Not flaming you though John. There just isn't much to wring out in the way of HP on these cars, or at least not like on a mustang or camaro where a silly cold air intake will net 10+ hp. That is a strong # for a 98..the Apexi will really come in handy if you ever want to add headers, TB, MAF or nitrous down the road. Kinda like an investment for the future I guess. And a darn cool toy to have on the dash at a car show too I might add.

FWIW, my car put down 173 hp and 155 ft/lbs with a K&N drop in, optimized stock airbox, injen intake pipe, and magnaflow exhaust w/offroad y pipe.

Huh? Did I say I paid $400? Try about 20% of that.

You obviously didn't read my entire post, as it was only 3 PEAK hp. As I stated earlier, I don't really care for peak HP, because in theory, it doens't mean much. RE-read my post, and you'll see I gained a solid 6-8fwhp from 3700-6k+.

Looking at your dyno numbers, this makes even my peak #s respectable... Guarantee you you'd see some great gains w/ a S-AFC, considering all your intake and exhaust mods...

I say it was worth the $XX that I paid.

John
