I've noticed some metal lips in the return passages going from the head to the block on the three I have at home. I'll have to take a look to see if there are any other puddle areas which could be improved for return flow... interesting. If anyone has time, I would be willing to pay for an extra pan that we could modify to record our own tests to take the heat off of the Rousch contact. Some thick plex, a little gasket material, nuts and bolts, hack a hole in the side of the extra pan and we'd be in business.

Ouch, 8 ounces at 5500... now that's more serious starvation than I thought!!! eek

Yeah, but if there isn't much oil in the pan at high rpms because the heads retain most of the oil, wouldn't the addition of an oil feed to the oil pan do some good to keep oil circulating throughout the engine?

Honestly this is how I have mine currently setup. I originally had the Vortech feed line plugged and the oil return line plugged. The feed line kept leaking so I added a fitting to the end of the return line and just hooked the two together. I wasn't trying to do away with any oiling problems, just got sick of it leaking oil down on the trans.

How does the simple little stuff get by Ford like this!!? It always took 6 quarts to bring mine to the fill level anyway, with the 3L, think Im gonna go 6 and 1/4.

Well I have to say that I am with Silva bullit on this.

My car has run a half court low at many a autocross, the cars been run at high RPMs all the time I cruise around at 4k just to here my exhaust(besides the cars are worthless any lower) I have no problem as of yet.

Now I did take your advice scott and I am running a 1/2 high.

But again I just looked at the blowin engine thread and although I think it sucks that it has happend to these guys, the truth is there is only about 20-25 posts on that thread!
This site has over four thousand registered members. Thats pretty good odds, imagine how many have viseted and never registered. I would bet had they had a blowin motor we would have heard from them.

Perhaps it is a problem but it does not look to be on a mass scale.

The scarey part is that I was a half a quart high when mine went. Given the small amount the SC contained in lines and the SC itself, I would venture to guess that mine was a bit of a freak failure. I'm going along the same lines as Worldtour here, but at a slightly different angle... crank oil sprayers. They're pretty cheap to do and fairly simple too. That keeps a slightly higher percentage of oil closer to the pan and ready for repump. Anything that can get oil back to the pan a bit quicker will help it sounds like. In our pans, 8 ounces will not give the oil much height to reach the pickup. Throw it around to one side in a corner and it's even less oil near the pickup...

Nothing new to our starvation issues, but it is nice to have a better idea of actually how much oil we may be dealing with here so we can better deal with the problem. With fixs that are known to work, why take the chance of being "lucky"...

Like I said, I was trying to fix a leak, not trying to figure out an oiling upgrade. I just got to thinking about it after this thread was started.

All, I have an extra oil pan which I would be glad to send to whomever is eager to do this investigation. I know that quite a few folks here (including myself) would be very interested in the results.

Now, the catch is that this pan has a small puncture (that's why it's no longer on my car!) but it should be fairly easy to patch up temporarily for the purposes of the test.

Anyways, if anyone is interested, just send me a PM.
