BAT/Bilstein?
Could be that Bilstein is selling off their factory seconds to third-party suppliers, which would be why said supplier would "not be allowed" to sell them or represent them as "Bilstein." This happens quite often in the parts industry, from what I gather. .
If this were the case wouldn't BAT market them as a special limited time offer. And why would they sell them with higher rebound BAT springs in the BAT Handling kit.
-AndyI didn't say anything about damping rate.
And most manufacturers have a steady supply of seconds, so it wouldn't have to be limited time. Furthermore, by not stating the brand, BAT is free to source from whomever is convenient at the moment.
I'm only speculating here, and more than anything, just trying to illustrate other possibilities.
1) Even if Bilstein makes them, they may not be up to Bilstein's usual quality standards.
2) They could be Bilstein this week, and somebody else the next.
On the other hand:
1) Bilstein's seconds might still be darn good, or they wouldn't even be able to sell them to a third party retailer.
2) It doesn't really matter as long as they work well and last a long time.
3) So far, everyone's experience with the BAT struts has been positive, AFAIK.
4) Andy, you could be absolutely right. (But aren't there lots of Bilstein shocks on American roads?)
