I run Valvoline Durablend (dino/synth) 5w30 & change every 3,000 (+/-500). I have considered changing to Mobil One, but never have done it. No real opinions one way or the other. Just commenting on what I use.

Someone said combo's (dino/synth) are bad. Is this true? Why?

Most of the supposed advantages of synth (which I adhere to, btw) are lost if it is mixed with dino. Blends are a way to charge more for something that basically performs the same as dino.

As for extended drain oils, only AMsoil, Red Line, and IIRC Royal Purple are designed for extended drain, and even they recommend filter changes between oil changes.

The real ripoffs are semi-synthetics, to which they impose no limitations as to what the minimum percentage of synthetic oil must be in a pint...

If you wanna run semi, blend it yourself, buy three name brand pints of dino oil, and three pints of mobil1 (SAME viscosity). You don't lose all the advantages of syn when you blend, although you muffle them somewhat. I would not go past 4000 miles with a blended oil.

I use Royal Purple and change every 3,000 miles!
