There is a how to in the how to section on the Tranny fluid. I've done it, its easy 1 hour or less. Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF with Ford Friction Modifier. BEST BET. Ask anyone who has done it. Also really good protection for your tranny.

Ok, I'm asking, what difference did it make when swiching from non synthetic to the Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF with Ford Friction Modifierfull mix?

I don't know if it's in the "standard" owners manual, but it is in the SVT supplement book for sure. So far, I think I'm going to stick with mobil 5w 30 and Motorcraft filterrs.

Night and day difference in shifting. A lot smoother and less "mushy". Much easier to shift when cold. The Friction Mod is also good for synchro life.

I change my mobil 1 every 6000miles, sometimes 8000. I was worried with all the lube shop owners saying it would harm my engine (what did you expect, no really...)
So i did an oil analysis, and at 9000 miles, my oil (amsoil 5w30) was still in spec. Pure one filter. Foam air filter (that accopunts for alot, filtration is better than K&N or stock)
So if you're gonna dump at 3000, I would say mix 50/50 with conventionnal oil. If not, just go 5 to 6K with syn. Comes out the same price wise, and its much less hassle. Cleaner engine too.
BTW, leaks on high mileage engines are caused by accumulated crud from the dino oil. Crud shields seals from the oil, seals dry and shrink. then when you add synthetic oil, it cleans the crud, and exposes the seal. If the seal has dried out too long, it cannot recover its original shape or size. Then you have leaks... And if you have a seeping leak, it will be worse with the same grade syn, because of lower viscosity...

Really glad this post came along, while I'm using castrol GTX right now due to being overwhelmed by credit card bills, my next oil change will be Amsoil with an Amsoil filter, I did a good deal of reading up on this and it seems to be the best combo. Amsoils filters apparently filter out much finer contaminants, and their oil is rated to last 7500 miles!

Speaking of the seeping oil leaks.... What all can leak oil? I started this thread, and was wondering, since i changed to synthetic and nothing has started leaking yet.. But like i said, what would leak? Which seals do you think would be corroded?? Thanks!

I run a service center. I use Pennzoil Syn. I change my oil every 3000-3500 miles. The only real difference in the major brand (Penn., Castrol, Mobil 1, Val)synthetic oil's are minor differences in detergents. I have found a slight increase in fuel mileage, as well as faster preasure on start-up. I find it very funny that some people belive that a synthetic oil(read: man made) is just conventional oil(read: from the ground) with Slick 50. I have always thought that engine additives are not needed if you properly maintain you engine. I doubt Robert Yates or Roger Penske ever poured a jug of Motor Up into a motor that made some noise during a pit stop.

Also,be cautious of extended oil change intervals. Most filters become inafective after 3500-4000 miles. Once the filter becomes clogged, the oil bypasses the filter. This is bad. The additives in most oils also wear out after 4000-5000 miles.
