Well "IF" you happen to be unlucky and have a car with a full tank of gas and time constraits then you can unscrew the passenger side bot a little to aid the movement of the Tank. I highly reccomend doing it with less gas in the tank. It moves better that way.

Try pushing one side into position first then using that leverage to push the other side in as well. It works like a charm.

When I did my rear bar I had the car on stands and used a small jack to force it past the metal stone guard on the plastic fuel tank.

The stone guard was all that was stopping it going in on my Mondeo, not the actual tank itself- I take it the Contour has the same problem?

thanks
I ended up pulling mine out the passenger side wheel well, but couldn't push the new one in that way ... I'd suggest you just pull HARD to get the old one out and PUSH hard to get the new one in. Count on busted-up knuckles. mad
