I just decided to start changing my own oil. I have had Penzoil Synthetic-Blend oil put in my car the past 4 oil changes.. Is it fine to switch to Mobil 1 tri-synthetic on my car? It has like 90,000+ miles on it.. Just wondering, thanks in advance

It's a waste of money, if you use Syn oil just use 1 qt with your normal oil, say 4 qts of penn and 1 qt of penn syn, or mobil drive clean and mobil syn. Putting all syn oil doesn't do anymore for your engine than just 1 qt in with your normal oil. Or just add a bottle of duralube or slick 50 in with your normal oil, because all syn oil is is just normal oil with a treatment in it, like duralube or slick 50. Just my 7 cents

Go ahead and use fully synthetic, you should be OK. I would not use the semi-syns; they are a waste of money!

Yeah, Synthetic is just a marketing gimic. It ranks right up there with the little stickers you throw on the back of cell phones to boost the signal....

wow, do you have to try to say stuff like this? Please, try to understand what you are talking about before making definative comments.

Synthetic oil is a far more consistant chemical composition oil than conventional, and is capable of offering the same protection at lower viscosities, creating less parasitic loss than a conventional oil.
Is it worth it? Depends on your budget.
Does it have noticable benefits? Yes.
Should you switch to synthetic on a higher mileage engine? You can always give it a try, conventional oils tend to swell gaskets and seals more than a synthetic, so occasionally a higher mileage engine will leak a little after switching to synthetic, but if your engine is in good shape, it shouldn't be an issue. And even if it is, you can always switch back at your next oil change.

It's all about balance.

You should do stand up with a routine like that...

Really... I mean... You weren't serious right??? Man I sure hope not. That would just be sad otherwise...

Yep I did say it in Zetec forum too, I have asked plenty of mechanics about it and that is what they have told me, if I am wrong, so be it. But I was just relating what I have been told.

Thanks for the help :-) I will be changing it this evening on the ramps I've made from the MustangWorld forums (but 1 more step). Again, thanks for the info!
