I was wondering if anyone has changed the little flashing red LED on the dashboard (for the factory theft prevention module).

I tore it apart. It doesn't look too hard to do. I figure I could replace the LED that is attached to the electronics board, or wire in a complete new flashing LED unit into the same place and not mess with the original parts. In case I wanted to switch back.

I've seen some super bright flashing LED's but they are all a 3 wire system. I'm guessing pos, neg, trigger. So they wouldn't work.

Just looking for some suggestions from anyone who's done this already.

CM.

I was trying to look up parts online to see just how much it would cost if I mess this up.

The part # on the LED module is:
97 BG 15K603 AA

The part # on the whole assembly is:
XS2X-046B38-ABW

Neither one is listed on www.fordpartsonline.com. Is there anywhere else I could try?

all you have to do is go to radio shack and get a new led, any color you choose. I think I used 4.5 watts or something. Then just take a soddering pen, unsodder the old one, sodder in the new one. Make sure you take note of which wire is positive and which is negative. It does make a difference.

The shop that put in my alarm replaced the stock LED with the alarm status LED. They told me I could replace that one with a blue one if I wanted. Hmmm...maybe I'll give them a call.

Its not that easy if you have a dash clock, they use sufrace mounted LEDs(see tiny)and only use around 1 volt.Tried it...
