Jazzman ... the addition of Non OEM parts is covered by the Magnuson-Moss Act of 1975. Find it here I went around and around with my extended warranty company on repairing a damaged head on my SVT, now they finally just dropped it by saying that it was material/workmanship. It will give you a leg to stand on though when dealing with people.

Get the Gold Version! It's actually an alarm the other two are simply lazy buttons. Bill has more details if you details if you call him but I foudn that a local shop would install the same thing for the same price installed.

How much would the silver/gold ones be? I was quoted $330 for an AsterStart, one remote. I need 2 remotes. Alarm too? Cool. Im sick of going to the mall and finding business cards under my side-window trim. Why wouldnt you be able to remotely lock when it has been remote started? Remote starting doesnt involve a key, and the only way you cant RKE it is when the key is in the ACC or ON position. What's the range on them? I know my RKE remote has a range of about 35 feet, and the AstroStart Im looking at has a 2500 foot range.

Check out Viper Alarms. I didn't add it the remote start (it is available on my model - see sig), but mine was $299 installed. That gave me Remote entry (didn't have OEM RKE) and alarm. Remote start is "built in" so only a relay and wiring is needed. Comes with 2 OEM quality remotes and I haven't checked the range, but it worked easily from my office to my car (150 ft through the building).
Worth a look IMHO

Viper? Whats that? The only thing Id put in my car would be a Ford accessory, or a genuine AstroStart. Id actually like the Ford one, becase it looks like it came when with the car brand new. Besides...I'd have the new style, small remote AND id have 2 of them (Right??)AstroStart, I'd only have one, and they said that I would NOT beable to use my RKE remotes with it, they would work, but they would screw the Astro's programming. But Id like to know how much the Ford ones cost before I actually call the dealer. Thanks!

Alarm System made by Directed Electronics . They make many of the Dealer Installed/OEM systems. they have systems that directly connect into your OEM RKE. Look at the site...Check auto alarms. I have a Merc. Villager with what appears to be an OEM alarm. The alarm tied in to the Mercury RKE so I don't need 2 different key fob. It works with the Merc. Fob. Worth a look anyway

Yes Directed Electronics Inc, or DEI the manufacturer of Viper, get a viper system they are very resonable in price and one of the best systems you can get for the money. As for the Astro start I think they use the small micro/mini relays where as all DEI systems use the full size potter brumfiled and bosch relays very reliable system lifetime warranty largest security manufacturer in North America. Remember Clifford Electronics they had some cool systems and were DEI's biggest competitor and DEI bought them to. If want a really cool system with built in paging look into the Compustar by Forsetech I love the system had it on my first SVT now I have it in my second SVT but it's pricy don't worry about the ford system it's pricy and is a very basic system. Yes, it's manufactered by Code Alarm which make good systems but the ford labelled model does not compare to what you'll get aftermarket. Just like performance products everyone buys aftermarket cheaper then factory and performs better.

Nope, Id only get a Ford one, or an AstroStart. No Vipers, nothing else. I just wanted to know if a Ford one would work on my car, and how much one would be (Keyless entry, security, and remote starter), or if I'd lose my lock beeper if I got an AstroStart.

Maybe I wasn't clear. I have a Ford OEM alarm in my Merc. Villager (Even has a Ford Oval on the Alarm Siren). It was dealer Installed. It is actually a Clifford (owned by DEI) system. If it is a dealer installed OEM option, it is actually often made by someone other than Ford. Clifford is a large supplier of OEM equipment. So when you say you only want a "Ford" system, you would still get the Clifford or other sytem anyway. It is cheaper to get an alarm/remote start in the real mfg's name then to get the "Ford" label on it. The Mercury Alarm was $900. The Viper was $299. The Merc. alarm was an add-on to the remote keyed entry module so didn't need a key fob . The Viper was a much better deal with longer range and more options. I originally wanted the original system (on my Contour), but was taken aback at the complexity and cost. Save your $ and get an aftermarket system. The local alarm guy will treat you better than any Ford dealer. As far as Astrostarts, if that floats your boat, fine. Why they are better than any other in particular I wouldn't know. Just my opinion anyway.

just wondering...what's your love affair with the horn beep? I mean, seriously...it's a horn beep...you can install just about any alarm/keyless and set it up to honk your horn, if that's what's important to you...or, if you would rather have reliable operation/security, etc...I'd look into aftermarket... just my .02
