I have about 45K miles on my Tour, should I look into replacing the PCV valve? I've heard that this should be checked every 10K miles, but to my knowledge it never has, how hard is this to replace? Also when would you recommend new spark plugs? Thanks!

I still have my original PCV valve at 126,000 miles. They just don't fail like they used to when the oil was lousy and the valves would load up with sludge. Since it is near the throttle body, I often spray it out when I clean the throttle body, but I probably don't need to. It still works fine. If you can hear the valve rattle when you shake it, it doesn't need attention. It is worse to have the wrong valve than to throw away a good one. Aftermarket valves are notorious for not properly matching engineering specs.
I change my plugs every 60,000 miles.

the best way to check the pcv is to see if you can blow through one end and not be able to suck air, or vice versa, depending on wich end you do it from

If for some reason, you choose to replace it, it is pretty easy. I just replaced mine this weekend (106K miles). It requires loosening one hose clamp and removing one end of an approx 1 inch dia hose to get you some room, then its just a matter of pulling it out of the hose it is mounted into, disconnected two other hoses, and then installing a new one. I replaced it with a Motocraft replacement that I bought from carparts.com. Total time spent was 10 minutes. The one I pulled out was pretty crudy inside (I think that the nature of the beast) and still functional. Still, sometimes it just feels good to do something to the rig.

It is basically right under the EGR valve (the 3 inch diameter stamped metal disk which is directly in front of the passenger side windshied wiper attachment shaft. If you get a flash light and view it from the battery side of your car, you will see it buried down a bit. It is mounted into a larger hose, and has two other hoses feeding into it. Regards, Jab.
