Roger, your comment "...what's 3 x 3?" Where did you find that? I am not the
webmaster, but I will look into it.
In the technical discussion of Welding vs bolting the Rear STB, the following appears:
Now let?s compare these numbers to a weld-on arrangement. The mounting/backing plate is 3 inches square. If the backing plate is
fully welded around it?s perimeter, we have 3 (inches) times 4 (sides) = 12 square inches per side times 2 (sides) = 24 square
inches! Even if a stitch weld technique is used and we assume a 1-inch space between 1-inch welds, the weld on attachment
technique provides 12 square inches of area vs. 4.712 for a bolt on arrangement.
The area of a 3x3 square is 9 sq inches. Not 12.
