If for some reason, you choose to replace it, it is pretty easy. I just replaced mine this weekend (106K miles). It requires loosening one hose clamp and removing one end of an approx 1 inch dia hose to get you some room, then its just a matter of pulling it out of the hose it is mounted into, disconnected two other hoses, and then installing a new one. I replaced it with a Motocraft replacement that I bought from carparts.com. Total time spent was 10 minutes. The one I pulled out was pretty crudy inside (I think that the nature of the beast) and still functional. Still, sometimes it just feels good to do something to the rig.
