Personally, I feel that the use of rubber, although common in OEM applications, is a big part of the problem here. Rubber degrades with time. Add a little leaking engine oil, steering fluid, etc. into the equation and they fail even quicker. It wouldn't be so bad if Ford would supply replacement bushings, but I guess someone saw an opportunity to make extra $$$ by making us buy an arm complete with a new ball joint and bushings!
