similar thing happened to my friend, except the guy who hit him was from New Hampshire, and there you don't need to have car insurance. But, the way the Connecticut law is written, no matter where your car is registered, if you drive in CT your car must be registered.
Anyways, my friend was driving his truck (F-350) down rt 75 (2 lane road) when the guy in front of him in the right lane suddenly decided to make a U turn in front of him. To make a long story short, the other guy was driving a cadillac, but the whole front end was bent to the side, one front tire poped the other wheel fell off. My friend's truck suffered a dented front fender a bent bumper and a ruptured transmision cooler line that pretty much dumped almost 5 gallons of tranny fluid on the road.
Since it was the other guys fault it was his responsibility to pay for damages to my friend's truck which totaled about $2500. Since he did not have the money, my friends insurance company paid for the repairs and filed law suit against the other guy who is paying back the for the repairs plus a little extra.
word to the wise, do not drive in CT if your car does not have insurance becasue if you get into an accident with a viehicle registered in CT you will be screwed.
