It completely skipped my mind that I should fill you all in. Last friday my dad picked up his new viehicle. A white 2002 Ford F-150. He's only had it a week and he's planning to do a few mods to it. I'm so proud.

First he wants to use synthetic oil in the engine, but I said you need to wait a while for the engine to properly break in first.

He's debating over a plastic bed liner, or having one sprayed in. They have their advantages and dis-advantages.

I'm trying to convince him to install a K&N drop in air filter to help free up a few ponies, he just said "humm." So I think he might go for that.

It has the 5.4 V8, and I've heard rumors that the engine has special sensors that can detect a loss of coolant should it ever leak out. If so the sensors detect that, and change the engine's operating peramaters and allow the engine to continue to run with no coolant. What it does is fire every other cylinder in the firing order so the engine makes 2 full cycles 4 revs before firing any one cylinder a second time. The theory is that the static cylinders will cool themselves by drawing in and expelling fresh air.

It is also a LEV (low emission viehicle) I gave it a sniff test and all I could tell is that really hot humid air was comming from the tail pipe, it just had the smell of new exhaust pipes.

Another thing I noticed is that as the transmission shifts, that short time when its between gears the engine shuts off, I guess it stops fuel flow. Interesting.

He specifically wanted a towing package and 4x4 so the lightning was out.

Maybe Corey's friend could make a conversion for the lightning. smile
