wow, if I had a deposit paid on a car and they were still trying to sell it, I'd be ripped!!
when I bought mine, there was a girl who was very interested in buying my car as well (it hadn't even hit the lot yet, but I test drove one somewhere else and wanted it from this specific dealer)
I asked him as I paid my deposit if there was any way she could "outbid" me or still test drive my car and he said absolutely not, the car was mine due to the deposit.
