I'm really starting to get tired of the nova suff, literally "no va" means "no go" in spanish, but i think they meant nova as in super nova.

Nova is new in Italian... Nuevo(a) is new is Spanish.
I wouldn't use Car and Driver as evidence. I'd be tempted to moon them, then show them a grave so they'd know the difference between an *** and a hole in the ground.

Did anyone mention "Citroen"? What a screw up! What the folks at that company apparently didn't know was that "Citroen" means "lemon" in French. No wonder these cars never sold well. Actually, Citroen is written with 2 dots above the e, so the meaning is different in French. Citroen is a pretty big name in Europe, I believe the largest French automaker.
Midnight Red '95 Contour SE ATX Just completed the lighted moonroof switch mod. Its great! www.webcentrix.org/contour_se.html "The whole purpose of a car is not to go fast it's to get from point A to B, and if you can afford it, to get from point A to B with some sense of style." As seen on the Ricecop.com boards

What the folks at Citroen apparently didn't know was that some people wouldn't take the time to distinguish between their pretty good cars and a citrus fruit.

I'm glad I at least skimmed the thread before deciding to post the Nova thing... I suppose Nova edged out "the Chevy va a coger su madre" during a boardroom coke orgy or something...

Cavalier - It refers to a mounted soldier. Does that really apply to a small car with a smaller engine?
Avalanche - named for a natural disaster.
Studebaker from the late 1920s and '30s, the Dictator. Why not just call it the Hitler and be done with it?
Olds Toronado - The actual translation from Spanish is 'bull swimming.' bubble-topped AMC Pacer - was it a horse, or an expectant father?
Chevy Astro - The Jetson's dog?

The 1977 - 80 Lincoln Versailles. Versailles ? a city in Italy. The name may have not been the worlds worst... But if you ever had the opportunity to drive one... It was a joke! It was Lincoln?s first attempt at creating something small which would appeal to a younger age group. What this car truly was, was a Ford Granada with a Lincoln kit on the front and the Continental trunk lid hump surrounded with the Granada tail lights on the rear deck lid. Poofy interior and electric window / door locks. Woohoo!!! My parents actually test drove a two tone Teal Blue/Green one in 1980 ? but decided to get a white Town Car instead... Thank God! Check out this web page to see more about the car - http://www.onlinelincolns.com/versailles/ There were only a total of 50,156 sold. Makes you wonder... What are people thinking? Eurythmian

High Beam - Cool Blues in all four Head Lights. 885s in Fogs. Head Light Switch Wiring Mod ? Can now run with Parks and Fogs together. Updated the sound system and did sound proofing (What a difference!).

First,,,to be a pain in the butt to someone who posted earlier...Fuego is not a wind,,,its Fire in spanish...Then,,,I dont think I ever cared about the name of the car I was looking at..i think that they go for flow of pronunciation, once you get it, more than meaning...Although the XR4Ti,,,could have just been called the Sierra as in Europe..But in Europe,,the escort was Xr4,,theen they added the turbo and fuel injection, so there comes the T..i.... Actually Paseo means "go for a walk,,,or drive",,and that car is sporty looking,,,I think that most people bought Miatas because of the car and not what Miata meant. But the hit is when the car sells and everyone repeats the name...If a caddy Coupe de Ville sold well,,,I dont think Coupe de Ville rolls of people's tongues as easily...
He's chaaarging!!!...(add scottish accent)...

Versailles was the chateau outside of Paris Louis XIV "The Sun King" developed into a glittering opulent mansion with a court that was the showplace of Europe. It is a very fitting name for a luxury car, and one I believe Lincoln should resurrect in plance of the Continental, which would be transformed to a premium sport/luxury sedan.
